DAY #1...HUTCHINSON, KS TO BOISE CITY, OK. (301 Miles)

After Jack and I had our required nourishment this morning, we meandered out of town about 10:30 A.M.

To say the wind was blowing would be an understatement. We fought 45-50 mph winds all day, and our hands were tired from hanging on for dear life, hoping to stay on the bikes. I have recent memories that tell me staying on the bike is a good thing. Just west of Minneola, Ks. I turned over 40,000 miles on the KLR.

Since the bike was new I've taken a picture every 10,000 miles and logged the location. These locations are scattered all over the U.S. We stopped at our planned last gas stop of the day in Boise City, Oklahoma, and while there went into the convenience store to look at our planned route for tomorrow. We were going to ride into New Mexico to spend the night, but when we came back out, the sky was black to the west, with cloud to ground lightning. (Not a good thing) We went to the Pizza Hut for supper (Plan B), parking our bikes up on the sidewalk under the overhang. Shortly after the rains came, along with terrible winds. We sat in the restaurant for over 2 hours, and finally gave up and decided to spend the night here. The motel was right next door, so that was convenient. After we checked in the sun came out for a few minutes, with a beautiful rainbow in the east sky.

Tomorrow we are heading towards the mountains and Red River, New Mexico. We're hoping for a calmer day, but we'll see what happens. Every day you get to ride is a good day...some are just better than others.
Stay tuned for Day #2.
